Polonnaruwa located in North Central Province and it’s consist of two districts of Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura. The 2nd largest city in North Central province is Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura is largest city in Province. the UNESCO has declared Polonnaruwa ancient city as a world heritage.

Polonnaruwa Located in about 140 kms from Kandy and 216km from Colombo. The modern city area of Polonnaruwa is known as New Town of Polonnaruwa, and the balance area remains as the royal ancient city of the Kingdom of Polonnaruwa.

Old town of Polonnaruwa city is best place to evidence ancient ruins, it was spread through about 4km of area. To the west side of the Polonnaruwa ancient city is there is Parakrama Samudra (sea of Parkramabahu) which is built during King Parakramabahu’s reign. This man-made lake (Parakrama Samudra) was identified as a one of greatest creation of ancients, and this was built in the 13th century and rehabilitated in 1950s.

How to Reaching Polonnaruwa

If you using own Transport can use Colombo-Habarana main road (A6) and then by Habarana-Polonnaruwa (A11) main road.

If travel by Train Colombo-Batticaloa train runs via Polonnaruwa.

Buses also available from main Cities (eg: Colombo)
